“We confidently claim to be the best in Korea when it comes to actual drone flight and functionality testing,” said Jung Tae-hyun, Director of Vololand, during an interview at the K-ICT WEEK in BUSAN 2025, held at BEXCO in Busan from July 15 to 17.

“There are about three to four companies in Korea that manufacture drone stations,” he added. Drone stations serve as essential infrastructure, functioning as ‘homes’ for drones—where they take off, land, and recharge.

VOLOLAND, headquartered in Ulju County, Ulsan, participated in the event by showcasing its compact drone station and drones from its partner companies. Founded in 2021, Vololand is a startup specializing in the design and supply of core drone components, systems, and stations. It holds Korea’s only patent for flight data destruction technology and possesses triple-redundancy systems for flight controllers.

The company has independently developed its own flight controller (FC)—a core component of drones—as well as an AI edge computer. Last year, it operated drones composed of over 80% domestic parts in more than 1,000 flight tests, earning it the top award in the drone delivery demonstration project selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

At the exhibition, Director Jung introduced the company's drone station and drone products.

VOLOLAND plans to supply these products to a public institution next month. The drones will be used to monitor illegal structures near dams in Gangwon Province. “We will begin with two units for testing, and if successful, the program will be expanded to dams nationwide,” said Jung.

Although domestic demand for drones remains limited, Vololand is actively targeting overseas markets, particularly the United States and Europe. As these regions restrict the use of Chinese-made components, opportunities are emerging for Korean companies. “We’ve even established a local corporation in the U.S. to drive our sales,” Jung noted, adding, “We’re currently focusing on defense and agricultural sectors.”

Vololand is actively pursuing commercialization by carrying out projects in Ulju County, where its headquarters is located. Executive Director Jung stated, “We have installed around 10 units in Ulju County — five small, three medium, and one large drone station,” adding, “Purchases are also being made by universities and other institutions.”

While there is significant interest in drones domestically, actual transactions remain limited, Jung noted. “We hope this exhibition will help raise greater awareness of our products,” he said. “When it comes to real-world testing, including hundreds of flight operations, we believe we are the best in the country.”
