Vololand Co., Ltd. (CEO Ahn Sung-ho) and FG Industry Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Jong-pil) announced on the 22nd that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the "joint development and commercialization of an AI drone-based offshore plant monitoring system" that combines advanced unmanned vehicle technology with Korea's best engineering capabilities.
This MOU is attracting significant attention from the industry, as it marks a collaboration between leading companies in their respective fields to fundamentally eliminate the risk of human casualties and maximize maintenance efficiency in the high-risk, high-cost sectors of offshore plant and shipbuilding. In particular, the establishment of a monitoring system based on "purely domestic technology" to replace foreign drones, which have been plagued by security issues, is expected to make a significant contribution to enhancing national industrial competitiveness.
Vololand Co., Ltd. is Korea's leading specialized unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) company that develops deep learning-based AI drones and "Drone Stations," unmanned charging and control systems, by strictly excluding foreign drones and components that pose a risk of information leakage and utilizing only purely domestic drone parts. Of particular note is that CEO Ahn Seong-ho, who leads Vololand, is a veteran engineer with over 10 years of experience directly designing large-scale projects in the shipbuilding and marine sector. Based on this solid technical foundation and deep understanding of the shipbuilding and marine field, the company possesses overwhelming competitiveness in supplying the most stable and optimized marine-specific solutions. This is achieved by perfectly reflecting the subtle needs of the field and the unique characteristics of harsh offshore environments, which are difficult for general drone companies to identify. Headquartered in Busan, FG Industry Co., Ltd. is a top engineering firm leading Korea's shipbuilding and offshore plant sectors. Leveraging vast 3D data, structural understanding, and field know-how accumulated through the successful execution of numerous large-scale offshore plant design projects, the company provides optimal engineering solutions covering the entire lifecycle of offshore plants.
Starting with this MOU, the two companies will closely cooperate in four key areas: joint development of hardware and onboard software for AI drone-based offshore plant monitoring systems; establishment of a partnership to enter the drone monitoring market in the offshore plant and shipbuilding industries; successful commercialization of jointly developed products; active mutual cooperation for demonstration tests and market expansion; and creation of a new industrial ecosystem and establishment of a business cooperation system through the convergence of different businesses. They will jointly pursue the entire process from research and development (R&D) to commercialization.
