The era of food delivery by drones has now begun in Ulsan as well. Starting this month, drone delivery services will be available at tourist spots and campsites in Ulju County. We looked into how this service works.

This is reporter Heo Jun-won.

A large drone over 1 meter in size takes off carrying a box filled with beverages.

After about five minutes, it arrives at a nearby campsite 2 kilometers away and drops the box into a net set up there.

This is the K-Drone Delivery service launched by Ulju County this month.

The drinks I just received were delivered by the drone behind me.

Here, you can order not only drinks but also Chinese food, snacks, and basic medicines via drone.

Delivery is available only on weekends through the K-Drone Delivery app, with a maximum load of 3 kilograms per delivery and a delivery fee of 3,000 KRW per order.

Products are first delivered to a hub, where they are packaged and then sent along pre-entered routes to designated delivery points. As the delivery area expands, merchants are also growing hopeful.

[Lee Hana / Drone Delivery Participating Merchant: Since delivery by riders can't reach certain areas, drone delivery makes it possible. This will increase additional deliveries, so I expect sales to rise.]

Ulju County has set up three delivery hubs starting with Jagcheonjeong, Jinha Public Parking Lot, and Yeongnam Alps Complex Welcome Center, and plans to deliver to 15 tourist sites including Ganwoljae and Solgae Beach.

[Lee Soon-gul / Ulju County Governor: We have entered an era where drone services can be experienced in daily life. Ulju County will lead the commercialization of K-Drone Delivery as a pioneer.]

Ulju County plans to analyze the delivery project over three months and improve its operation plan. It remains to be seen if drone delivery opening new air routes will become the starting point for a new distribution system.
